Did you know that by consuming 1-2 glasses of green smoothie a day you could be consuming 5-8 servings of fruits and vegetables? That’s ideally the daily, recommended amount. Most people don’t even get 2 servings a day! Did you also know that drinking green smoothies is one of the easiest ways to digest the full nutrients of fruits and vegetables?

Not only can you really not taste the greens at all, because of the sweetening effect of fresh fruit but also, you will be getting a huge boost in nutrition. Greens and fruits made in the right combination have boosting energy, building your immune system, detoxing impurities, and loosing weight.

Greens are rich in important enzymes, magnesium and alkaline minerals like calcium and are superb in their Omega-3 unsaturated fat content. Believe it or not, greens are one of the richest sources of protein.

The best combination is a balance of 60% greens to 40% fruits but you can reverse those percentages if you are a beginner. Keep the greens varied as well. Spinach and Romaine Lettuce are my favorite. Other options include: kale, celery, chard, turnip greens, parsley, beet greens, and collard greens.

I have found you can make a green smoothie out of pretty much any fruit and greens combination! However, we have to be slightly cautious when it comes to combining veggies with fruits. There’s a small difference between greens and veggies.

Keeping greens in the same category as vegetables is misleading and can even be harmful to public health. It would be great if produce departments have at least the following three separate sections: fruits, vegetables, and greens.

"Greens” are the flat leaves of a plant, attached to the stem, that can be wrapped around a finger, with a very few exceptions, including nopal cactus leaves and celery.

Dr. Anne Wigmore, who pioneered living food nutrition in the United States, taught in her lectures that green leaves are the only food that can be combined with every other food group without any negative effects.

In his book Food Combining Made Easy, Dr. Herbert Shelton explains that starchy foods have to be eaten alone because starches are digested with enzymes different from those used for any other food group. Combining starchy foods with fruit may cause fermentation and gas. Dr. Shelton has found that combining green vegetables with every food group produces favorable results.

There are several benefits in adding greens to other foods. For example, beside having high nutritional value, greens contain a lot of fiber. The fiber in the greens slows down the absorption of sugar from fruit. This quality makes drinking green smoothies possible, even for people with high sensitivity to sugar, such as those who have diabetes, candida or hypoglycemia.

Vegetables such as carrots, beets, broccoli, zucchini, daikon radish, cauliflower, cabbage, brussel sprouts, eggplant, pumpkin, squash, okra, peas, corn, green beans, and others do not combine well with fruit due to their high starch content. While these vegetables are nutritious and beneficial for our health, their high starch content makes them unsuitable for use in smoothies.

If you do not want to mix sweet fruit into your green smoothies, you can use non-starchy vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, avocados, celery, and others. You can also consider using low–glycemic index fruit such as berries (any kind), apples, cherries, plums, and grapefruit.

So, can we combine greens and fruits in our smoothies? Absolutely.

Stay tuned on this blog for my green smoothies and juices video series on how to improve your overall well-being by making simple recipes in your very own kitchen.

Learning to listen to your body

Your body is always looking for specific nutrients and may not be getting them in nutrient-poor processed foods, anything marked low fat or low carb that is now sold to us in the supermarkets and everywhere we go.

So you eat and you eat and you eat...but your body may still not be getting what it needs. It's still looking for bio-available nutrients that are readily available in fruits and vegetable but are continuously destroyed when heated or processed. Learning to listen to your body will be a skill you develop as you get accustomed to increasing raw, living foods such as greens and fruits.

This Is Nothing I Have Not Heard Before, What Will Make It Different This Time?

One thing I hear over and over is that people know a lot of this stuff but have a hard time following through and putting it into practice. What I have observed is that people have developed an all or nothing mentality when it comes to eating healthily. Perhaps it is a lack of motivation or that there are too many conflicting theories about nutrition, diets as well conflicting lifestyles that leave most people with no time to prepare elaborate, healthy meals.

Perhaps we can start by going through a few basic terms that may help us debunk this mystery about healthy-eating and how to make it as smooth as possible.

Dead Food-lacking in enzymes, bioavailable vitamins, amino acids and minerals

Why should you choose fruits & vegetables?

v   Excellent source of fiber

v   Rich in vitamins and minerals including folate, potassium, vitamins A and C

v   Low in calories and fat-free -Except for avocados which are a good source of Healthy Fat

v   Provide a food source of water; fruits and vegetables are made up of more than 50% water

v   Abundant in phytochemicals and antioxidants

v   Most are low on the glycemic index

v   High consumption helps reduce risk of various diseases such as cancer, obesity, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, asthma, macular degeneration and diverticulosis

v    Increasing fruit and vegetable intake decreases risk of unhealthy weight gain

Healing foods- Consume foods known to contribute to your health.

Plant-based choices-Choose minimally processed plant foods that are known for their health benefits.

Variety and balance -Fill your plate with whole grains, healthy fats, and a colorful array of fruits and vegetables every day.

Support a pollution-free environment- Select foods that have been produced without harming our planet.

Mindful eating -Truly savor, enjoy, and focus on what you eat.

What is the threshold effect?

Research supports evidence of an inverse relationship of fruit and vegetable consumption with development of chronic disease. This means that the more fruits and vegetables you eat, the less likely you are to develop chronic diseases. The most significant reductions in risk of illness are seen when individuals consume 7-10 servings of fruits & vegetables per day (the threshold). Therefore, to get the most health benefits we recommend a minimum “threshold” of 7 servings of fruits & vegetables daily.

What are the recommended servings of fruits, greens and veggies per day?

Overall: more than 7 servings

Vegetables: unlimited (minimum 5 servings)

Fruits: 2-4 servings

Recommended Serving Sizes of Fruits & Vegetables

Fruit or Vegetable

Serving Size

Size of tennis ball

Baby carrots

¾ cup

Vegetables, cooked

½ cup

Fruit, Dried

¼ cup

Melon, Chopped

1 cup

Fruit/Vegetable, Raw, Chopped

½ cup

Leafy Greens, Raw, Chopped

1 cup

Specific Considerations

Fiber comes from plants, therefore fruits and vegetables are naturally good sources of dietary fiber.

In some cases fruits and vegetables with the skin have more fiber and antioxidants than their peeled counterparts, so wash them well and eat the skins

For individuals who do not consume dairy products, vegetables can be a good source of Calcium.

Many dark green leafy vegetables including mustard greens, turnip greens, and bok choy are good sources of calcium

Glycemic Index

Fruits and greens are generally low on the glycemic index and therefore, cause a gradual increase in blood sugar.

Tropical fruits, carrots and beets, have received a bad name for having a high glycemic index.

Most of these foods have a low glycemic load so the amount of sugar provided in an average serving is unlikely to significantly increase blood sugar.

Variety is important - the benefits of eating different types of fruits and vegetables greatly outweigh the potential risk of eating a food that is naturally high in sugar.

Research tells us that the more phytochemical - rich foods eaten, the lower the risk for diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

Red - lycopene- found in tomatoes, watermelon, & pink grapefruit .

Orange- beta carotene- found in fruits and veggies - beta carotene found in carrots, mangoes, & cantaloupe.

Yellow - beta cryptothanxin- found in pineapple, oranges, & peaches.

Green – indoles- found in broccoli, cabbage, & kale etc

Purple – anthocyanins- found in blueberries, grapes, eggplant & cherries

White – allicin- found in garlic, onions, & chives and others like bananas etc

The most well known phytochemical are the antioxidants :

Colorful plant foods are loaded with antioxidants so eating a variety of fruits and vegetables is a great way to protect the body from oxidative damage, and therefore reduces the risk of numerous health conditions

Research shows antioxidants play a role in preventing prostate, lung, mouth, and throat cancers. Research also suggests antioxidants are helpful in the prevention and management of Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, arthritis and aging.

Cooking Fruits and Vegetables

Some antioxidants are available when the fruit or vegetable is raw, and others are more available when the fruit or vegetable is cooked. For example:

-Lycopene, found in tomatoes, is more available to the body when they are cooked.

-Beta carotene, found in carrots, is more available to the body when they are raw.

-Steaming helps vegetables retain water-soluble B vitamins and vitamin C, which are easily lost during boiling.

High cooking temperatures and long cooking times also destroy heat sensitive nutrients such as B vitamins, vitamin C, and folate, so keep cooking times short

Pesticide Use

To reduce consumption of pesticides, follow these tips:

Wash all fruits and vegetables with water or a fruit and vegetable wash.

Some common homemade fruits and vegetable washes are:

-2tbsp. baking soda + 1 tbsp lemon juice + water

-½ white vinegar + ½ water (soak for 5 minutes)

-Diluted dish soap

Before eating apples, cucumbers, potatoes or other produce in which the outer skin or peel is consumed, scrub with a brush.

Throw away the outer leaves of leafy vegetables, such as lettuce and cabbage

Consider Organic

According to the Consumers Union and The Environmental Working Group as of 2009, the top fruits and vegetables to buy organic because of potential pesticide residue are:

      Sweet bell peppers

Ways to Increase your Organic Fruits and Vegetables Intake

v   Shop at farmers markets (Find one locally at: localharvest.org)

v   Buy a share in a community supported agriculture (CSA) program -For more information, check out nal.usda.gov

v   Join a food co-op, they are great places to find local produce

v   Preserve extra organic produce when in season by freezing or canning

v   Grow your own fruits and vegetables -Try starting small: cherry tomatoes and peppers can easily be grown in pots indoors or outdoors

v   Prioritize: start with buying what is on sale or choose one item you eat most frequently and switch to organic.

Ideas to Increase Consumption of Fruits and Vegetable

v   Do it gradually

v   Snack on raw vegetables instead of chips and crackers. To keep it interesting, try dipping vegetables in hummus, salsa or low-fat dip.

v   Add fruit to your cereal or yogurt at breakfast

v   Order salads as an appetizer when out to dinner

v   Get creative - add vegetables to dishes that don’t always include them, like scrambled eggs, rice or pasta dishes, pizza and casseroles

v   Drink your fruits and vegetable (including fruit just past its prime) in the form of a fruit or green smoothie where the whole fruit is used -Be aware, many store bought smoothies and mixes are made with added colors and sugar, and lack the naturally occurring fiber, so check the label before you buy

v   Choose salads as your main course for lunch or dinner. For variety, top your salads with strawberries, grapes, orange slices, or dried cranberries; and for protein add tempeh, nuts, or fish.

v   In hot weather, frozen fruit such as grapes, sliced kiwis, sliced peaches, bananas and strawberries are a refreshing snack

v   Enjoy salad bars at restaurants or grocery stores

v   When craving a sweet treat, try dried fruit; it’s quick, easy and no mess! For easy access keep some at work or in the car

v   Buy fresh fruits and vegetables in season. (Find out what to buy: nrdc.org)

v   Frozen fruit and vegetables are frozen soon after harvest and can be eaten during the off season as a nutritious alternative to fresh produce

v   Watch local grocery advertisements for reduced prices on your favorite fruits and vegetables

v   Try fruit for dessert, on its own or with a dollop of fresh whipped cream or ice cream. A bowl of mixed berries is an excellent treat for the sweet tooth.

v   Prepare fruits and vegetables ahead of time, so they are readily available when you are hungry

v   Fill half of your plate with vegetables and/or fruit

v   Choose a rainbow of fruits and vegetables daily; quantity is important and variety is the way to maximize your nutrient consumption.

v   Many fruits and vegetables are easy snacks for a busy day. Try baby carrots, grapes, clementines, apples, bananas, cherries, even broccoli.

Did you know that pH of your body affects every aspect of your heath? pH levels Regulate, effect, and control practically everything in nature, including your body. pH balance of the body can be simply summarized as your internal balance of Acid and Alkaline.

When your body is pH balanced, it is full of vitality. You’ll find that you have increased energy, mental clarity, and you’ll even notice that your skin has regained that healthy glow.

Dr. Robert Young reminds us to think of our bodies as a fish tank. Think of the importance of maintaining the integrity of the internal fluids of the body that we "swim" in daily. The fish in this tank are your cells and organ systems bathed in fluids, which transport food and remove wastes. If the fish get sick, do you treat the fish? You simply change the water!

The internal balance of your pH is VERY important, unfortunately few medical practitioners in western medicine are aware of the major role it plays in causing diseases.

The body will do whatever it takes to keep your pH balanced, whether you provide it alkalizing foods or not. When not getting sufficient alkalizing electrolytes from food, your body will borrow alkalizing minerals from your bones and other organs in order to keep your pH balanced. This shows up in the form of weak bones, arthritis, weakening organs and full-blown degenerative diseases that are affecting so many people too early today.

Eating an alkaline diet is very powerful in making everything else work better. In general, it is important to eat a diet that contains both acidic and alkalizing foods. People vary, but for most, the ideal diet is 75 percent alkalizing and 25 percent acidifying (foods by volume).

Food combining is key to creating an alkaline environment because when you combine properly you reduce putrefaction in the body creating a more alkaline condition. I will touch more on food combining on this blog. More information can be found on my website, under-Nourish Naturally.

Moderate exercise is alkalizing to the body. Excessive exercise (past the point of exhaustion) can create an acidic problem due to lactic acid buildup. People who are acidic usually feel worse from exercise because their detoxification organs are not working properly due to excessive acid in the tissues. Yet without exercise, acid and toxin buildup are likely.

As the saying goes - "every step you take, every breath you take ...".
If your environment is polluted with chemicals, dust, smoke, pet dander, mold, micro-organisms, then much of your energy reserve will go just in detoxifying. Today, even in the forest and near the ocean, the amount of negative ions are much lower than they were only a few decades ago. Also, since we sealed buildings to conserve energy and started making our homes and furnishings with synthetic materials, the number of cases of asthma and chronic fatigue have risen dramatically.

When you purchase supplements you must ask yourself what your goal is and will these supplements actually help alkalize and remove acid from your body. Green drinks are very helpful in filtering out toxins and acidity in the body.

Increase your intake of high Alkaline foods

Have you ever been so upset with someone or something that you get an upset stomach? All negative emotions create an acidic environment. Have you ever heard anyone say you are letting your problems "eat away at you" or "get the best of you"?
Fear is the underlining cause of most disease. It will undermine your life and your health. Fear causes anger. Anger causes hate. Hate will consume you with continual suffering. Love and understanding cleanse and heal the body creating an alkaline environment within you.

Scientists have found that healthy people have systems that are alkaline. Our blood is like the river of our lives, bringing oxygen and nutrients to every cell in our bodies. The blood must remain at a pH of 7.36-7.4 in order to continue doing so.

When healthy, the pH of our blood is 7.4, the pH of spinal fluid is 7.4, and the pH of saliva is 7.4. The pH of saliva parallels the extra-cellular fluid. pH test of saliva represents the most consistent and most definitive physical sign of the ionic calcium deficiency syndrome. It is scientifically documented that up to 150 diseases are related to calcium deficiency caused by over-acidity.

This is why doctors check your pH at the hospital, either to test your urine, blood tests or saliva so as to gauge how acidic or alkaline your body is or simply, how sick you are.

It is important to understand that we are not talking about stomach acid or the pH of the stomach here. We are talking about the pH of ALL body's fluids and tissues which is an entirely different matter.

Our pH balance of 7.36-7.4 allows for the conductivity of electro-magnetic power throughout our body. That electrical power is created by our internal bio-chemistry. This is a very delicate balance, and acid coursing through our system breaks it down completely. In order to maintain this powerful electric current inside of us, our body MUST maintain a pH of 7.36 constantly.

ACIDOSIS is the basic foundation of all disease. We need to understand the simple process of alkalizing our body and the important role a properly alkalized body plays in restoring and maintaining our overall health. Our glands and organs function properly in exact proportion to the amount of alkaline and acid levels in our system.

It is important to understand that we are not talking about stomach acid or the pH of the stomach here. We are talking about the pH of ALL body's fluids and tissues which is an entirely different matter.

The heart is one of the most alkaline-dependent organs in the body. It is partly enervated by the vagus nerve which functions best in an alkaline environment. Correct heartbeat is altered by acid wastes. These wastes rob the blood of proper oxygenation and degeneration of the heart follows. An alkaline system creates an ideal heart function.

Digestive difficulties (belching, bloating, sensitivity at the waist, intestinal gas, regurgitation, hiccups, lack or limitation of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, colic in children) may indicate vagus nerve problems and possible hiatus hernia syndrome, which can produce acid residue throughout the system. Hiatus hernia can quickly reduce necessary hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Without proper hydrochloric acid breakdown of foods, the foods become too acidic.

The liver has over three hundred functions, including processing acid toxins from the blood and producing numerous alkaline enzymes for the system and is your first line of defense against any poisons. All the nourishment obtained through the gastrointestinal tract enters the blood by way of the liver. The load on the liver is much heavier when acid waste products are constantly floating in the blood. If the liver becomes too congested with protein acid wastes, death is imminent.

The pancreas is highly dependent on correct alkaline diet. All aspects of pancreatic function reduce excess acidity and regulate blood sugar balance.  To have proper blood sugar balance, you must maintain a primarily alkaline-forming diet.

The Peyer's Patches, in the upper portion of the small intestines are crucial to life. They are essential for proper assimilation of food and producing lymphocytes for the lymphatic system's wide ranging nodal network. They also produce large amounts of the enzyme "chyle", which is a major alkalizing substance. The uninterrupted flow of chyle into the system is crucial. Too much acid waste production from acid-forming foods is a great burden on the Peyer's Patches, which lessens the production of chyle.

In an adult, about 1 liter of blood per minute passes through the kidneys. By executing their primary duty, the kidneys keep the blood alkaline and extract acid. Kidneys that are over-stressed with too much acidity create kidney stones, which are composed of waste acid cells and mineral salts that have become gummed together in a waste acid substance. Therefore, by reducing acid-forming products from entering the body, the chances are better that you can avoid this painful condition.

The colon must be kept clean of accumulated acid wastes. Poisons collect on the colon walls and in cases of diarrhea or constipation will harden and reabsorb into the bloodstream. Good bowel action (complete elimination) must be done at least 2 times per day.

There are 600-700 lymph glands in the body. Lymph fluid carries nutrition to the cells and removes acid waste products. Lymph fluid flows best in an alkaline environment. When the body is overly acidic, it slows, creating one of the most chronic, long-term, life-threatening situations. Gradually, the lymph dries and begins to form very tiny to very large adhesions throughout the tissues. These adhesions can interfere not only with lymph fluid but with blood flow as well. Hindered lymph flow increases tissue acid storage. Not drinking enough purified water will also slow the lymph. Waste products from foods that are not properly digested are reabsorbed into general circulation via the lymphatic ducts of the small intestine. In addition, bowel movements that do not completely clear the body of its daily poisons are also reabsorbed.

It's never too late to Alkalize your body! You can do it now! It is the natural way of being.

People sometimes call the human body a machine-the most wonderful one ever built. Of course, the human body is not a machine. But it can be compared to one in many ways. Like a machine, the body is made up of many parts. Each part of the body, like each part of a machine, does special jobs. But all the parts work together and so make the body or the machine run smoothly. Also like a machine, the body needs energy to work. In such a machine as a car, the energy comes from petrol/gas. In the human body, it comes from food, inhaled oxygen and sunshine.

Although the human body can be compared to a machine, it is far more amazing than any machine. It can do things that no machine can do. For example, the body can grow and heal itself. The body starts out as one cell. In time, this tiny cell multiplies into a body consisting of trillions of cells.

Naturopathy, Alternative Medicine, Ayurveda and Chinese Medicine hold that, diseases and illnesses are only symptoms of an underlying imbalance. Their main focus is on the big picture: "To restore balance and to help you create such a healthy lifestyle that the imbalance won't occur again."

All these disciplines are based on the realization that the human is born healthy and strong and that humans can stay as such by living in accordance with the laws of nature. Even if born with some hereditary illness, the individual can eliminate it by putting to the best use the natural agents of healing.

Perhaps the most important lesson that Alternative and Holistic Medicine has is the teaching that there is only one disease and that is imbalance.

We are currently living in an epidemic of obesity, and increased occurrences of degenerative diseases such as atherosclerosis, diabetes and cancer like never before. Yet all of these be changed and prevented with a few simple changes in lifestyle and ways of thinking.

At the end of the day, our health is a choice; it is up to us. Every day of our lives, every hour of every day, we can, and do, choose either health or illness. When we choose wisely, nature rewards us with health and happiness. When we persistently choose unwisely, nature, in her infinite wisdom, eventually sets us straight: she makes us sick and hopefully gives us a chance to rest and rethink our choices.

Before we give up and think it's too late, let us re-familiarize ourselves with the way nature, creation, and the creator, intended for life to be. Only when we ensure that our physical health does not hinder our progress, can we achieve our ultimate goal in life - happiness! To reach this target, we should use the body as a means. The desires of the body should never be the end.

If we don’t take care of our bodies, they will not take care of us and eventually degenerate. There are simple established rules and laws for all living creatures to follow that result in internal and external balance. If followed, they cannot only bring vibrant health and harmony, but they can slow the aging process and increase our life spans.

Animals are smarter than we think....they are one with nature and respect it

Most undomesticated creatures lead peaceful, long lives without violating nature's rules. That is why they don’t need hospitals, medicines or medical science to the extent humans do. Animals follow their intuition and know when to eat, what to eat, how to exercise before they eat, how much to eat, how much water to drink, when to drink it, and how to heal their bodies naturally when sick, through fasting.

Humanity too, was healthy and in sync with nature before "modern civilization". Ill-health is now directly proportional to the amount of humanity's negligence of the physical body, the environment, and disregard for all life forms, including its own.

It is NOW time to go back to BASICS so that we can remember how to get back in balance and use our technological advancement to our advantage.

This, in essence, is the whole point and purpose of "The Information Age!"- to utilize our technological advancement and return to balance.

Based on Naturopathy and many Alternative Medicine disciplines, if we consume natural foods appropriately, our excretory organs can release their waste materials regularly.

Dr, Raju Mantena, (Naturopath, India) reminds us that if we eat natural foods before sunset, the time for the excretory process will be quite sufficient. Then the proportion of what is ingested to that, which is eliminated will be 1:1.

However, if we continue to eat 'dead' and processed foods irregularly, till mid night, there is not enough time for excretory action and so 10% of fecal matter will stagnate in the body.

The human cell is like a stove or like a piston in a motorcycle. The energy produced in the cells spreads all over the body continuously meeting the needs of the body. We feel very weak if we delay our food by four, five hours. This means the energy produced in the cells is almost exhausted and the body warns us in the form of weakness to eat food. It sends such natural signals! If we eat food regularly, the cells work continuously and once their lives are over, they give rise to new cells in their place.

Once the engine of a car consumes the fuel, carbon monoxide smoke is released. In the stove, after the wood is burnt, the smoke and charcoal remain as waste material. In the same way, in our cells from the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the water we drink, after the cells have provided energy, they release waste material in three forms – in either solid, liquid, gaseous states. These three forms, after exiting the cells, join the blood in outward circulation, and reach the excretory organs. The gaseous state of waste material that joins blood goes to lungs and is let out in the lungs, exhaled in the form of carbon dioxide. The liquid state of waste material goes through the blood to the kidneys and skin and is left there. From the kidney it is excreted as urine. Finally, in the same manner, solid waste exits the intestines as stool. This is a constant, everyday chemical reaction in the body.

Waste material produced in the cell through food, air and water should be proportionate to the waste material sent out (1: 1) from the cells. Then only we can claim to be perfectly healthy people. Whoever has such a perfect proportion in the cells will have a healthy exterior also.

Human Milk for Human Babies

The newborn who depends only on breast-feeding has this 1:1 proportion for the simple reason that s/he drinks only when s/he is hungry and stops when the cells ask him/her to stop. Also, s/he urinates and defecates whenever s/he feels the need. So that purity is there in her/his cells. The 8.4 millions of creatures in creation follow the same formula.

Once the body is given solid food, this process of the body changes and follows different rules.

Simply, the waste material produced in our body is based on the food we eat.

The food we eat can be divided into four types.

1. First type of Nutrition  : 100% Natural, Mostly Raw Foods= 100% Waste

Best Body Fuel-Raw Vegetables, Sprouts, Radishes, Olives, Salads, Avocado, Seeds and Nuts etc

If you eat sproutsfresh fruits, raw vegetablesseedsnuts and raw sprouted grains only, the body will release the waste material daily and so the cells will be pure and healthy. The waste material produced by this food is very little. The body doesn’t need much time to complete its excretory process.

Compare natural food to jet fuel for the airplane. The pick up is greater and the smoke produced is less.

Raw and natural food provides the body with important enzymes, bio-available nutrients, more energy and less of waste material. The body will be healthy, and automatically the mind will be sound. This type of food keeps the ailments at bay and body odor away from the body.

2. Second type of Nutrition  :  60% Raw, 40% Cooked=90% Waste

Raw Green Salad on a bed of Cooked Brown Rice & Red Beans

It contains 60% raw vegetables and fruits and 40% cooked whole foods (grains and non-animal protein). These cooked foods do NOT have salt, oil and spices. From this food 90% of waste material is excreted and 10% remains in the body, because the 40% cooked food gives the body more work to eliminate! The waste material formed here is more than in the first type.

This type of food is like the gasoline used for ordinary cars with a pickup of 80%.

Of course there will be NO major problems when one is this type of food, but it is not as pure as the first type because it does NOT have enough raw enzymes and bioavailable nutrients which get destroyed during cooking/heating above 117 degrees. Occasionally one is prone to small disturbances like a cold or fever, but nothing too serious on this type of nutrition.

3. Third type of Nutrition : 100% Cooked, Vegetarian=50% Waste

All Cooked- Vegetables, Beans, Tofu, Lentils etc

This is totally boiled/cooked food. Salt, oil, and spices are added to only cooked vegetarian food. Spicy pickles and peppers are added also. Fifty percent of this food's waste material stagnates and only 50% is excreted.

Compare this type of food to diesel fuel. It has 50% pick up and 50% smoke.

This food lacks in fresh enzymes and enough minerals and vitamins as heating vegetables and fruit above 117 degrees fahrenheit, destroys all enzymes and destroys some vitamin and mineral content. As a result of the fifty percent stagnated waste in the body, everything that is excreted as sweat, urine and feces, emits bad body and mouth/breath odor. There is uncleanness in the cells that is spread all over, resulting in this putrefying smell. A person on this diet will have some ailments (headaches, irritability, rare colds due to limited minerals and vitamins and other essentials) fairly frequently. They will often feel restless.

4. Fourth type of Nutrition : 100% Cooked/Processed/Meat =30% Waste

Fried, Cooked, Baked, Spicy, Salty, Sweet, Preserved, Processed Foods

Cooked White Rice (processed), salty, spicy meat with almost no vegetables

This is the Standard American Diet (SAD). It is also the standard diet in almost all parts of the world where western civilization has infiltrated and people are eating little or no fresh foods on a daily basis.

This type of food contains: salt, oil, spices, preservatives, lots of meat, pork, little or no vegetables, sodas, liquors etc. 70% of its waste material stagnates in the cells and only 30% is released.

It is like kerosene with less pick up and more smoke. It gives you only smoke, and cannot power a vehicle.

The urine and bowel movements in this type of nutrition emit a very bad smell. The cells live in a polluted atmosphere as a result of the toxins (chemical-laden preservatives) and accumulated remains. The cells die early because they have little sustenance and nutrition. New cells are born in their place in a great number, but what is the use? Most of the energy produced from the food is spent towards birth and death of the cells, not towards other bodily functions.

People who eat this type of food get tired easily. Their major excretory organs (liver, kidneys, skin, lungs) are over-worked while their bones borrow minerals to keep the body balanced. Weak bones are an early sign of the effects of this type of diet.

People on this type of nutrition are likely to be affected by chronic degenerative diseases early in life and are prone to irritation and anger. They can never be balanced or have holistic health. There is no sign of lasting health in their bodies as long as this is the main choice of diet.

Choose Health! Knowledge gives you power to make the right choice!

Do we now understand why food influences our physical health and even mental abilities? Those who consume food that provides more energy and less waste material have healthy bodies and sound minds. The smell that comes out of the cells is based on the accumulated waste material in the cells.

We can now decide for ourselves individually, whether we are healthy or not, depending on the smell that is emitted by our bodies and whether we will do something about it. The choice is ultimately always ours.

You CAN have perfect health within six months if you follow the first or second type of nutrition mentioned above strictly. There is no doubt about it. Hear it from someone who has experienced all the 4 types of nutrition and decided to choose the best fuel for my body for all-rounded health almost 10 years ago. I have never looked back and what I have been able to gain has been priceless! So this is not some idealistic notion that I'm just blogging about. I know and live the benefits on a daily basis. My goal is to inform, inspire, motivate anyone who understands holistic wellness and lifestyle, because it is really, the natural way of being before modern life threw us off balance. It can be done. You can do it!

Let Your Food Be Your Medicine

All foods are not the same; some supply nutritional materials in the proper proportions while others do not. Whereas one food may assist in building a strong healthy body, another can be a source of toxemia, which results in disease. It is not entirely true that "you are what you eat" but there is more truth in this statement than most people realize.

Food plays the major role in determining the health of the body. If you suffer from any disease that is caused by toxic overload and deficiency, you may be sure that incorrect selection of food has been chiefly responsible. If, on the other hand, you possess vibrant health with great strength, endurance and an abundance of energy year-in year-out, you are no doubt one of the few who has endeavored to make a practical application of food science.

What we eat deeply and radically affects the way we think, feel, and behave - it also affects entire life processes of planet Earth. If we observe nature long enough, we will notice that all undomesticated animals do not suffer from degenerative diseases because they eat what they are designed to eat.

The so-called 'Food Pyramid' is corrupted. The human body requires a 75% Alkaline and 25% Acid blood/body fluid balance. This can achieved by a diet that consists of 75% Fresh Vegetables, Fruit, Nuts & Seeds and 25% Protein and Whole Grains. Anything other than this balance only produces discomfort and degenerative diseases in the long-run.

We must learn to obey the laws of nature. We must learn to eat simple, pure, and natural foods, properly prepared and combined. Our bodies in return will cast off all the poisons we have taken in during our lives. The mysteries of the body, the operations of nature, the vital forces working in nature are far beyond what our minds are prepared to understand at present.

Every great physician or scientist who ever lived marveled in awe and ...humility at the wonders of nature. Yes--we are "wonderfully made!"

The concept of acid alkaline imbalance as the cause of disease is not new. In 1933 a New York doctor named William Howard Hay published a ground-breaking book, A New Health Era in which he maintains that all disease is caused by autotoxication (or "self-poisoning") due to acid accumulation in the body:

Now we depart from health in just the proportion to which we have allowed our alkalies to be dissipated by introduction of acid-forming food in too great amount... It may seem strange to say that all disease is the same thing, no matter what its myriad modes of expression, but it is verily so.
William Howard Hay, M.D.

More recently, in his remarkable book Alkalize or Die (see recommended reading), Dr. Theodore A. Baroody says essentially the same thing:

The countless names of illnesses do not really matter. What does matter is that they all come from the same root cause...too much tissue acid waste in the body!
      Theodore A. Baroody, N.D., D.C., Ph.D.

Understanding pH

pH (potential of hydrogen) is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. It is measured on a scale of 0 to 14—the lower the pH the more acidic the solution, the higher the pH the more alkaline (or base) the solution. When a solution is neither acid nor alkaline it has a pH of 7 which is neutral.

Water is the most abundant compound in the human body, comprising 70% of the body. The body has an acid-alkaline (or acid-base) ratio called the pH which is a balance between positively charges ions (acid-forming) and negatively charged ions (alkaline-forming.) The body continually strives to balance pH. When this balance is compromised many problems can occur.

It is important to understand that we are not talking about stomach acid or the pH of the stomach. We are talking about the pH of the body's fluids and tissues which is an entirely different matter.

Our hunter-gatherer ancestors consumed a diet very different from what's typical today. The diet was based on minimally processed plant and animal foods. But with the advent of agriculture, the standard Western diet changed greatly.

  • Grains were introduced into the diet after the appearance of stone tools. Refined grains were available after the invention of automated rolling and sifting devices.

  • Milk, cheese and other milk products were introduced with the domestication of livestock.

  • Salt consumption rose when technology to mine, process, and transport it became available.

  • Meat consumption increased with animal husbandry. It further increased with the advent of technology that enabled grains to be efficiently fed to cattle, which allowed cattle to be fattened quickly.

  • Sugar consumption has risen since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution

Almost all foods that we eat, after being digested, absorbed, and metabolized, release either an acid or an alkaline base (bicarbonate) into blood. Grains, fish, meat, poultry, shellfish, cheese, milk, and salt all produce acid, so the introduction and dramatic rise in our consumption of these foods meant that the typical Western diet became more acid-producing. Consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables decreased, which further made the Western diet acid-producing.

Our blood is slightly alkaline, with a normal pH level of between 7.35 and 7.45. The theory behind the alkaline diet is that our diet should reflect this pH level (as it did in the past) and be slightly alkaline. Proponents of alkaline diets believe that a diet high in acid-producing foods is disrupts this balance and promotes the loss of essential minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, and sodium, as the body tries to restore equilibrium. This imbalance is thought to make people prone to illness.

According to some alternative practitioners, the shift to an acid-producing diet is the cause of a number of chronic diseases. Some practitioners recommend the alkaline diet if a person has the following symptoms and other illnesses have been ruled out.

  • Lack of energy

  • Excessive mucous production

  • Nasal congestion

  • Frequent colds and flu

  • Anxiety, nervousness, irritability

  • Ovarian cysts, polycystic ovaries, benign breast cysts

  • Headache

Although conventional doctors do believe that increasing consumption of fruit and vegetables and reducing one's intake of meat, salt, and refined grains is beneficial to health, most conventional doctors do not believe that an acid-producing diet is the foundation of chronic illness. In conventional medicine, there is evidence, however, that alkaline diets may help prevent the formation of calcium kidney stones, osteoporosis, and age-related muscle wasting.

What is the Evidence for Alkaline Diets?

Large, well-designed clinical trials on the effectiveness of the alkaline diet for general health are lacking in mainstream medicine. However, in the Alternative Health records, there are many supporting studies and results

What are the Safety Concerns?

It's a good idea to consult your doctor before trying a new diet. The alkaline diet should not be used by people with acute or chronic kidney failure unless under a doctor's supervision. People with pre-existing heart disease and those on medications that affect potassium levels in the body should check with their doctor first.

The Amazing Health Benefits of Fresh Bok Choy

September 14, 2010

We often see bok choy in the produce aisle of our supermarket and listed in the ingredients of various soups, stews and stir-fry dishes.

Many of us probably omit this vegetable in favor of more familiar forms of cabbage and greens, but to do so would be a large mistake, because this super Asian vegetable has a number of useful health benefits and is rich with vitamins and minerals essential for healthy living.

This leaf vegetable is a member of the cabbage family and very popular in Asian cuisine.

Also known as Chinese white cabbage, among other names, it's frequently found in wonton soup and many stir-fry dishes ordered in Japanese and Chinese restaurants.

Mildly flavored with a tender sweetness, it's a welcome accompaniment to many meals without being overpowering.

It can be found fresh year-round in supermarkets.

Important health benefits that have been associated with consuming Chinese white cabbage include its abilities to aid in healthy digestion.

It's also high in vitamin-A, vitamin-C, beta-carotene, calcium and dietary fiber.

This leafy vegetable is low fat, low calorie, and low carb and also contains potassium and vitamin-B6.

Some of the vitamins found in bok choy are also powerful antioxidants, making this tasty cabbage an extremely healthy treat.

The rich amount of beta-carotene inherent in this super vegetable can help to reduce the risk of certain cancers.

Beta-carotene has also been known to reduce the risk of cataracts.

It's also an excellent source of folic acid and can also contain other healthful nutrients like iron, depending on the soil where it was grown.

The Amazing Benefits of Cucumber

September 14, 2010
Cucumber is a precious ally for an enviable figure and for the detoxification cures. Discover the qualities of this vegetable next and read about some recipes that will help you to judge the true value.

Cucumber is found all year long, but its season is from April to September.

There are 3 types of cucumbers:

- Traditional cucumber is dumpy and covered with small roughness. Grows in any garden.
- Long Cucumber, Dutch, is straight, has smooth skin and without that bitter taste and is found in any supermarket. The way it's grown keeps it safe from predators and diseases and allows the limitation of treatment products.
- Mini-cucumber is mainly used for picnics, for pickles.

Cucumber is ideal for silhouette

Cucumber has few calories, being one of the vegetables with the lowest number of calories: 10 calories per 100 grams. Contains fibers, minerals and water soluble vitamins hens the nutritional density proves to be very interesting. It is a real plus for a weight loss diet and a general healthy diet.

Cucumber has many vitamins: vitamin B, vitamin C and even a bit of vitamin E. These vitamins are found in abundance in its skin, hence the interest to consume as much cucumber.

Cucumber is rich in water, it provides potassium and some sodium (3mg), giving it drained and diuretic virtues. Cucumber juice taken on an empty stomach has depurative properties.

What should you know about cucumber?

In dermatology, cucumber is considered to have good calming effects, because of the specific organic acids and alpha hydracids. Cucumber is used usually in the form of cataplasm or lotion, to fight red spots, itching and scab.

Today's cucumber is much less bitter. Selection allowed the development of some less bitter species. Therefore we can consume without peeling it and benefit from the minerals, vitamins and the crispy part.

Avoid keeping cucumbers near fruits, especially apples, because they release ethylene, which contributes to increasing the bitterness of the cucumber.

To limit the digestive irritations associated with consumption of fiber in large amounts, it is preferable to eat little cucumbers. These has the least pits and pulp is much unripe. If you want to take out the pits you must cut it along its length and remove the center with a teaspoon.

We can reduce the intake of fiber by complete peeling of the cucumber. You must remember, however, that the skin contains the majority of vitamins and minerals. Do not forget to wash it thoroughly.

The Amazing Health Benefits of Cabbage

September 14, 2010
Under the scientific name Brassica oleraceea, cabbage is known since antiquity as both food and a natural cure, especially in its fighting against vitamin C deficiencies or scurvy - the disease caused by lack of vitamin C, manifested in anemia, bleeding gums and tooth loss.

Cabbage can be consumed fresh or preserved (sour cabbage), in both cases with beneficial effects.

Cabbage contains sugars, mineral salts, a hypoglycemic principle, vitamin C and provitamin A, antibiotic principles, mucilage and others.

Cabbage juice, mixed with carrots (for a more acceptable taste) and a few drops of lemon juice, is one of the effective ways to consume it for those who can't stand its taste but still want to benefit from the substances contained.

Cabbage cures

A glass of sauerkraut juice drunk in several rounds daily, between meals, for several weeks, is a good remedy to fight ulcer; besides the usual vitamins, it also contains the factor/vitamin U, with anti-ulcerous properties, which is lost in the process of boiling.

Raw cabbage is active in ulcerative colitis, hemorrhoids and constipation, especially thanks to its mucilage and its substances that contain cellulose.

As a powerful diuretic, cabbage is recommended for edema, kidney stones, cirrhosis and ascites. It is also included in the diet of diabetics. Cabbage may cause indigestion, especially because of some ingredients used in its preparation.

Indications for external conditions

Cabbage is used with good results in the treatment of external conditions such as abscesses or boils. It may also be used as a cataplasm in case of burns, phlebitis, varicose veins and varicose ulcers. In these situations the leaves are used without ribs, rived by pressing with a glass and applied to the affected area.

As compresses, cabbage has a favorable effect on chilblains, bruises and sprains.

Cosmetic use of cabbage

Press cabbage leaves (without their veins ) by rolling a bottle on top of them; then apply the washed leaves as a mask for the night, to reactivate circulation, for cleansing the skin and fight cellulite.
